Biblical entheogens: A speculative hypothesis

Abstract
Proposes that ancient Israelite religion was associated with the use of entheogens. Based on the observation that DMT-containing Acacia species and MAO-inhibiting Peganum harmala — pharmacologically equivalent to ayahuasca components — grow in the Sinai and southern Israel. Draws parallels between ayahuasca phenomenology and biblical accounts of Moses' experiences, corroborated by linguistic, ethnobotanical, and exegetical data.
