Abstract

Perspective article arguing that the social cure model — in which group membership and social identity drive health benefits — can enhance psychedelic-assisted therapy. Medicalized psychedelic treatments often lack the group dimension present in Indigenous and community contexts. Proposes that integrating psychedelics into group settings and leveraging their capacity to foster social identities could enhance therapeutic outcomes. Presents practical implications and a research agenda for investigating social identity processes in psychedelic treatment.
